Do I need an account?
No. You get a temporary anonymous session that expires on its own. We never ask for your name, email or photos to chat.
Is it really for adults only?
Yes. You must confirm you are at least 18 before you can join, and reports of suspected underage users are treated with the highest priority.
Are my conversations recorded?
No. Video and audio are never recorded, and text messages are transient by design. Limited safety metadata is kept only to handle reports and abuse.
What happens when I report someone?
The conversation ends immediately, you will never be matched with that person again, and our safety team reviews the report. The other person is never told who reported them.
How do I end a conversation?
One tap. “Next” moves you to a new person, “End” closes the conversation entirely. You are always one tap away from leaving.
How is this free?
The product is supported by adverts shown on calm surfaces such as the waiting screen — never inside your live conversation.
Why was my session restricted?
Sessions are restricted automatically when they accumulate reports or trigger safety systems. Restrictions are temporary in most cases and reviewed by our team. If you believe it was a mistake, contact us via the report abuse page.
Can I choose the country or gender of my match?
Yes, within limits. You can set a country filter (if nobody from that country is waiting, we broaden the search after a short wait so you still meet someone) and a gender filter. The gender filter requires declaring your own gender, works both ways, and covers two successful matches per day — after that, matching reverts to anyone until tomorrow. These limits keep matching fast and fair for everyone.
What do other people see about me?
Only what you choose to share: your chat name and your country, both self-declared and optional. Your gender is used for matching only and is never shown.
Why can't I click links people send?
Links arrive as plain text with a warning. Unclickable links dramatically reduce scams and malicious redirects — if you trust a link, you can still read it.
Does Hallo work on my phone?
Yes. The whole experience is designed mobile-first and runs in any modern mobile browser — no app install needed.
Can the other person record or screenshot our call?
Recording others is against the rules and we actively deter it: every call carries a faint watermark tied to the viewer's session (so leaked captures are traceable), video hides automatically whenever Hallo isn't the focused window, screenshot attempts we can detect notify the other person instantly, and in-browser save/picture-in-picture paths are disabled. No website can make capture technically impossible, so if you suspect recording, report it — it's one of our highest-severity categories.
