Practise a language with a real person
Apps teach vocabulary. People teach conversation. Tell Hallo which languages you speak and which you're learning, and we'll prefer partners you share one with.
How language matching works
Set your primary language and up to four you're practising. The matcher first looks for someone who shares a language with you; if nobody suitable is waiting, it gradually widens the search so you're never stuck in a queue.
When you match, the shared language is shown at the top of the conversation — a natural place to start.
Getting the most out of an exchange
- Agree a split: ten minutes in your language, ten in theirs.
- Text chat is great for beginners — you can read at your own pace.
- Don't fear mistakes; your partner is making them too.
- Be generous when correcting — you're both here to learn.
